Date Opened: August 1, 1997
Owner’s Background: As a single mother working in a professional atmosphere, Vena had to dress professionally, yet affordably. Vena learned years ago how to shop resale to find quality clothing and accessories. She learned that you don’t have to be wealthy to purchase quality clothing. In 1997, Vena opened Selective Seconds in a small rental house (zoned commercial) with less than $1,000. Today, Vena owns the house and has built a new 3,000 sq. ft. building next to the house. In 2003 she opened a second location in Greenwood, Indiana and later sold her Mooresville store. After running Selective Seconds for 4.5 years, Vena was able to quit her job at the law firm and now runs her business full-time with the help of her employees.
Vena also publishes a Resale Shopping Guide each year featuring resale shops in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. If you own a resale shop and would like to be included in the next publication, please give her a call!
“If I had known how hard it was to start and run a business, I probably would have never done it. But, I’m glad I didn’t know, because I would not be where I am now if I hadn't gone through everything I had. I love what I do and feel I made the right decision to give up my career to follow my dreams.” - Vena Holden
